Zororo retreat, Portugal

Zororo Retreat

Zororo retreat in central, rural Portugal, is an absolutely stunning villa.  I know because I’ve stayed there. With it’s 6 huge en-suite bedrooms, large kitchen, outdoor dining, games room (with pool table), it’s an absolute joy to stay there. If that wasn’t enough, there’s an outdoor court, for tennis etc. It even has it’s own vineyard. Oh, not forgetting the private pool as well.

First Aid 4 Gambia

The charity was set up by Fiona and Bill Nelson who are brother and sister, born in Nigeria of British parents. Their love for Africa has never diminished and one day whilst reading the news from Africa Fiona stumbled upon a story from The Gambia about the plight of the country’s primary health care and how a small cut or graze can easily lead to the loss of a limb or an extended hospital stay if a bed can be found in one the country’s three hospitals.

Fiona visited The Gambia in 2009 to see just how bad things were for herself. It was everything she feared and more. She visited schools and nurseries, spoke with teachers, helpers and other NGO care workers and quickly came to the decision that her First Aid Training skills were desperately needed in The Gambia to save lives.

With their original website, not having changed since 2009, it was high time to create a new one.  So, the call was put out.  A family member, who was volunteering for the charity, passed that call over to me.  This is the result.

The story of this website began over 15 years ago, when Richard had an idea for a game. His dream was to educate children and young adults about the periodic table of elements.

Over the years, life took over and his idea was put on the back burner. However, he never forgot about it. Fast forward a few years and I received a phone call from Nicole – a key player in this story. While I was on the top deck of the number 2 bus to Brighton, heading for a meeting, Nicole and I chatted. Being a bit of a geek myself, Nicole could hear the excitement I already had for the project. Within days, Richard, Nicole and myself were sat around a table. Ideas flowed and plans were made. The result? Well, see for yourself.

Eltham Writers Group

This site was created at short notice, as their presence on another website was curtailed.  This was made in a couple of days, and has served the group well ever since.

Honey Bees Online

This is my other business. This site promotes, and sells live colonies of Honey Bees to new beekeepers, wanting their first hives, and to existing beekeepers, who want to increase their stocks. The eCommerce software “WooCommerce” is installed, which allows visitors to order, and pay a deposit for their livestock.

This website has been around longer that the Brighton WebTech site. One day, I’ll have the time to redesign it. However, the site is doing well. In fact, it brings in more business than I can handle. Happy bees, happy beekeeper.

Radio 4A

Radio 4A is the longest underground radio station in Brighton. Established in 1996, it’s run by an enthusiastic band of presenters. The brief was for a minimal interface, with the focus on the play button, linked to the live stream of the station.

With regular live events, and an active listener base, this was an interesting project to work on. I’m still in regular contact with them, and visit them in their studio when I can. Feeling part of the team.
